A campaign has been launched to establish a new nationwide network of Grandparents. Parishes all over the country are expected to set up their own branch of the National Grandparents Pilgrimage Trust.

This follows the successful 2007 and 2008 National Grandparents Pilgrimages to Knock Shrine, which attracted over 15,000 pilgrims to the Co. Mayo apparition site.

“We have discovered from the last two Pilgrimages that there is a great need out there for Grandparents to have their own organisation within the Church,”

said Catherine Wiley, the Co. Mayo woman has founded the pilgrimage two years ago.

“In many cases, Grandparents are holding families together. They play a crucial role in transmitting the faith from generation to generation.”

This year’s National Grandparents Pilgrimage takes place on Sunday, September 13th, and the Chief Celebrant and Homilist will be the Primate of All Ireland, Cardinal Sean Brady. Parishes wishing to meet Mr Monaghan can contact him on 01 6625931, or by email:
